Rabri Devi was born to Sib Prasad Chaudhary of Salarkalan, Line Bazar, Gopalganj.Rabri Devi (born 1959) served three terms as the Chief Minister, of Bihar, India, as a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal political party, between 1997 and 2005. She is the wife of Indian politician Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister of Bihar and former Railway Minister of India.
She became the first woman chief minister of Bihar on July 25, 1997. Her first term ended on February 12, 1999, when the state was briefly put under president’s rule. Her second term ran from March 9, 1999 to March 3, 2000.Her third (and longest) term began on March 11, 2000, and ended in 2005, when her party suffered great losses in state elections.
The appointment of Rabri Devi as the Chief Minister of Bihar came under severe satirical criticism and stiff opposition, because she was nearly illiterate and had little experience or interest in politics.
It has been claimed that she can’t understand the official documents that are read to her, and that the administration of Bihar was actually carried out by her husband Lalu Prasad Yadav, even during the periods when he was in jail, having been convicted and sentenced on corruption charges; she and her husband dispute these allegations.
