Sheohar is a city and a notified area in and headquarters of Sheohar district in the Indian state of Bihar.



Sheohar is located at coor 26.52N, 85.3E. It has an average elevation of 53 metres (173 feet).It is divided into five blocks-Piprahi,Purnahiya,Sheohar,Taryani and Dumri Katsari.It was carved out of the district of Sitamarhi in the year 1994 due to the efforts of Raghunath Jha,a popular leader of this region.


As of 2001 India census, Sheohar had a population of 21,327. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Sheohar has an average literacy rate of 35%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 44%, and female literacy is 25%. In Sheohar, 20% of the population is under 6 years of age. The biggest and beautiful village of this District is Tariyani Chapra (the land of amar rathore).


Sheohar district has one assembly constituency,Sheohar represented by Ajit Kumar Jha and the Sheohar parliamentary constituency is represented by Sitaram singh of the RJD.In the same district lots of learned people working across all department.some of name are Sahdeo Singh (Education) Amar singh (Software engineer) Rakesh Singh and lots more.This district has produced popular leaders such as Thakur Ramnandan Singh,Thakur Nawab Singh and Raghunath Jha who is currently the member of parliament from Bettiah and Vice President of RJD.
