Former Union Minister Vijay Goel and former cricketer Chetan Chauhan have been fielded by the BJP from the prestigious New Delhi and East Delhi constituencies respectively in the Lok Sabha elections in the capital.
The list also saw two fresh faces — MCD Standing Committee Chairperson Vijender Gupta and former Councillor Meera Kanwaria — who will be contesting from Chandni Chowk and North-West constituencies respectively.
The party had a tough time deciding on the candidates with many of them insisting on contesting from their favourite constituencies like Goel, who had set his heart on New Delhi and some party leaders keen on fielding him from Chandni Chowk.
Mr. Chauhan has made a shift from Uttar Pradesh from where he had represented Amroha in the Lok Sabha twice.
Former leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly and sitting MLA Jagdish Mukhi has been nominated from the West Delhi seat while another sitting MLA Ramesh Bidhuri will fight from the South Delhi constituency.
The name of Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra, who was also expecting a ticket from the New Delhi seat, was, however, missing from the list. Former minister and BJP State chief Harshvardhan and son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma was also in the line.
