A Sikh reporter threw a shoe at the Indian home minister during a news conference after he was angered over the minister’s reply to a question.
Palaniappan Chidambaram was speaking in Delhi about 1984 riots in which hundreds of Sikhs were killed.
The minister leaned back to avoid the hurled shoe which narrowly missed him.
Jarnail Singh, a journalist with a Hindi daily, was angered by the minister’s response to a question related to the alleged involvement of ruling Congress party officials in 1984 anti-Sikh riots that left thousands dead.
Chidambaram had called the press conference to launch a report by Congress on countering terrorism ahead of general elections that begin April 16.
