Pressure mounts on Cong to withdraw Jagdish Tytler’s nomination

The fate of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler’s nomination from Delhi North-East is hanging by a slender thread. With the “shoe throwing” protest by journalist Jarnail Singh triggering sharp reaction among Sikhs, Congress leadership is seriously considering to dump Tytler to secure its prospects in Punjab.

Members of a conglomerate of radical Sikh organisations and Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) blocked rail traffic in several places disrupting its services in Punjab on Wednesday to protest against CBI’s clean chit to Jagdish Tytler in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

The UPA has been under growing pressure to drop Tytler as a Lok Sabha candidate ever since the CBI cleared him of all charges.
