India Elections : Clashes mar second phase of polling in Andhra Pradesh

Police fired in air to quell clashing groups of rival political parties at two different places in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh during the second phase of elections today.

Reports of violence were received from four places in Kadapa, home district of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, leading to police firing.

The police opened 30 rounds of fire in the air at Nagasanipalli village in Khaziepet Mandal of Kadapa district when supporters of the Congress candidate D L Ravindra Reddy and TDP candidate Raghurami Reddy clashed with each other, disrupting the polling process.

In another incident, the police opened fire in the air at Pedagollapalli village in Chinnaganjam mandal of Prakasam district when the TDP, Congress and PRP workers clashed with each other.

Police resorted to lathicharge on the TDP and Congress cadres who hurled bombs and stones at each other at Chapadu village in Mydukur Assembly constituency in Kadapa district. Two people were injured in the incident.Sporadic incidents of violence were reported in various places in Kadapa, Prakasam, Ananthapur, Guntur and some other districts.
