Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh on Tuesday gave a letter to President Pratibha Patil pledging support of his party to a Congress-led UPA government.
Amar Singh has gone alone to meet President Pratibha Patil to give the letter of support to Congress led United Progressive Alliance.
Samajwadi Party said that it would extend support to UPA to form a secular and stable government at the centre.
However, Congress does not look too keen on taking support from SP as a group in the party has strongly opposed the alliances with Samajwadi Party and RJD.
SP has 24 MPs in the 15th Lok Sabha and claims the support of two independents.
Samajwadi Party could not finalise a pre-poll tie-up with Congress in Uttar Pradesh and contested as part of the Fourth Front. RJD and LJP were the other two parties of this front.
