The Election Commission has announced the poll schedule for byelections to 13 RS seats, 11 of which are vacant after members were elected to the Lok Sabha.
Moreover, the EC has also announced the election schedule for bypolls for the Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, UP, Karnataka and Meghalaya. Polling for the vacant Assembly seats in these states will take place on August 18.
In a press release, the EC has said that the polling for the byelection to the 13 RS seats will be held on August 10. Counting of votes will be held the same day and the election process will be completed before August 12.
The last date for filing nomination papers for the RS byelection is July 30.
By-elections to the five assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu has been notified by the Election Commission of India. Polling will be on August 18 and counting on August 21.
The five vacancies were due to deaths and resignations. The Thondamuthur and Kambam constituencies were held by the MDMK, represented by Kannappan and Ramakrishnan respectively. Since they resigned and joined the DMK, the vacancy was created.
The Burgur seat was held by Thambidurai, who quit to contest the MP elections recently from Karur and was through. The Elayangudi constuency was held by Rajakannappan for the DMK, who resigned, and joining AIADMK contested from Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency against P. Chadambaram and lost.
The Srivaigundam vacancy was due to death of D. Selvaraj of the Congress on July 5.
The election schedule has been notified the election commission.
