Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Vilasrao Deshmukh on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the August 10 by-election to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra.
Mr. Deshmukh filed his papers to fill in the vacancy created due to the resignation of Sushilkumar Shinde, now Union Power Minister, after his election to the Lok Sabha from Solapur constituency in the recent elections.
Similarly, Govindrao Adik and Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil, both NCP, filed nominations for the two other seats vacated by Praful Patel and Supriya Sule respectively.
Republican Party of India (RPI) chief Ramdas Athavale, who had accused the Congress-NCP combine of not supporting his candidacy during the Lok Sabha (LS) polls, seems to be in no mood to reconcile. The Dalit leader on Wednesday declined the Congress-NCP’s offer of a Rajya Sabha (RS) seat. While the Shiv Sena has nominated advocate Rahul Narvekar to the Rajya Sabha.
