Crisis in BJP, Vasundhara Raje refuses to quit

The latest controversy has erupted due to a face-off between former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje and the rest of the party leadership.

The BJP core group on Wednesday decided to remove Raje from her post of leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan assembly, holding her responsible for the recent debacle in the elections.

However, Raje refused to step down and instead decided to parade her supporters for proof.

Fifty-seven MLAs supporting the former Rajasthan chief minister met party chief Rajnath Singh on Friday in in a bid to pressure him against the high command’s decision to remove her from the post of leader of opposition in the Assembly.

These MLAs will also accompany Raje when she goes to Delhi – quite a gamble because even Kalyan Singh, with the backing of his partymen in UP couldn’t escape being sacked.

From 21 seats in the 2004 elections, the BJP’s tally crashed to four out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
