Election Commission on Tuesday said political leaders in Haryana will not be allowed to use government and PSU-owned aircraft during next month’s assembly elections in the state.
The only exemption is for the Prime Minister in office.
He said that requests had been received from some of the Chief Ministers for relaxation of these restrictions for various reasons including those of security.
“The Commission reviewed the matter in depth and obtained further inputs from appropriate quarters in this regard. After taking into consideration all relevant factors into account, the Commission decided that the existing instructions in the matter would stand and there would be no relaxation”, he said.
Such political functionary may, if required, hire private aircraft and use it for their political campaign and other election related activities.
