Formal Notification for Haryana, Maharashtra and Arunachal assembly polls today

A formal notification to hold elections for Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Assembly on October 13 would be issued today after which the prospective candidates would be able to file their nomination papers till September 25.

The October 13 elections in the three states would be the first major test of popularity for major political parties after the Lok Sabha elections.

The counting of votes will take place on October 22 in all the three states that are ruled by Congress, which shares power in Maharashtra with NCP as a major coalition partner.

Maharashtra has a 288-member Assembly, Haryana a 90-member House and Arunachal Pradesh Assembly has 60 members.

The notification, signalling the start of filing of nominations will be issued today.

The last date for filing nomination will be September 25, while the scrutiny will begin next day and the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be September 29.
