Kalavati falls ill, unlikely to contest Maharashtra polls

Kalavati, the widow of a farmer in Vidarbha who shot into limelight after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi mentioned her name in Parliament, is unlikely to file her nomination for the Maharashtra Assembly polls as an opposition party candidate as she has been hospitalised.

Kalavati, who filed her nomination on Friday, has been named by the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) as its candidate for the polls.

Kalavati was rushed to a hospital early on Friday following hypertension, according to her aide.
Kalavati, backed by RPI-led Republican Left Democratic Front (RLDF) is contesting the October 13 polls from Wani in Yavatmal district as an independent.
