Rahul Gandhi told the newly-elected MP Raj Babbar to work hard to make Mission 2012 a success by ensuring its return to power in Uttar Pradesh after two decades through the next assembly elections.
Raj Babbar, who had notched up an impressive victory in the recent Firozabad parliamentary bypoll, called on the party general secretary to thank him for his campaign in his favour.
Congress termed Babbar’s convincing win by over 85,000 votes as a turning point in UP politics.
The newly-elected MP, however, attributed his victory to Rahul’s campaign for him.
According to sources, Rahul and his close lieutenants in UP politics are presently busy honing up an action-plan for the party’s challenge two years down the line.
Congress was voted out of power in UP in 1989 and ever since has been in the wilderness.
