A day after addressing a farmers’ rally in Aligarh and leading a kisan delegation to PM Manmohan Singh, the party general secretary rushed to the Niyamgiri hills in Orissa to extend support to tribals in their fight against an industrial project. “I am your soldier in Delhi,” he told a gathering of tribals on Thursday making common cause with them.
The two back-to-back events straddling the western UP plains and the hills in Orissa’s tribal belt are a pointer to his plans for Mission 2014. Concentrating on rebuilding the Youth Congress, Rahul has so far focused mostly on UP, a state which he aspires to bring back to the Congress kitty in the 2012 assembly elections.
The Congress general secretary is scheduled to visit Hisar, Kurukshetra and Karnal on Friday to interact with students.
Rahul has been focusing on farmers too after protests in UP over land acquisition flared up.
