India Elections : Tripura voted in support of the Left Front

Citizens in the Indian state of Tripura have voted overwhelmingly in support of the governing Left Front, handing it a landslide victory ahead of a key vote in West Bengal next year.

In last weekend’s elections the Left Front, backed by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), won 13 of the state’s 15 municipalities, pushing out the opposition Congress party in five of them.

After the results were confirmed on Wednesday the CPI-M politburo hailed the decisive victory as “confirmation of the confidence that the people of Tripura have in the CPI-M and the Left Front.”
