BJP puts Rajnath in charge of UP and Uttarakhand polls

The former Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh has been given charge of overall supervision of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, which are both heading for Assembly elections in less than a year.

BJP president Nitin Gadkari made a formal announcement to this effect here on Sunday. In Uttarakhand Mr. Singh will have Dharmendra Pradhan to help him oversee election preparations.

Two party leaders from Delhi, Harsh Vardhan and Jagdish Mukhi, have been given charge of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir respectively while Shyam Jhajhu has been asked to oversee election preparations in Himachal Pradesh. Mr. Gadkari has given charge of Punjab elections to general secretary Jagat Prakash Nadda.
