UP polls: Congress plays quota card in its manifesto

Telecom and HRD Minister Kapil Sibal along with Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Rita Bahuguna Joshi released the manifesto on Tuesday promised sub-quota to most backward Dalits and free legal aide to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The party promised a school in every village of Uttar Pradesh if it comes to power in the state while also saying that several residential schools will be established for the SCs/STs and OBCs.

The party also promised 50 per cent reservation for women in Panchayat elections. The manifesto also promised that every SC/ST family would be given Rs 10,000 at time of their daughters’ wedding while all SC/ST families below poverty line would
also get free electricity connections.
