UP Polls: SP, Congress battle for the Muslim vote

Uttar Pradesh has set to head for the final phase of polling on March 3. Samajwadi Party’s Muslim face Azam Khan addressed a last meeting at Nalla Paar in downtown Rampur. In a vintage performance Azam touched local issues, but knowing well what would strike a chord with masses in this district where more than half the voters are Muslims.Of the 125 seats in the sixth and the seventh phase, 56 seats have more than 30 per cent Muslim concentration and 25 seats have between 20 to 29 per cent minority votes.

As the polling date draws near, the clamor for minority votes becomes shriller, parties work overtime in what could well decide the final tally of parties in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
