MP Elections : Mallika Sarabhai to contest against Advani

An activist, dancer, an MBA and now – an independent politician – Mallika Sarabhai has taken the plunge into the rough and tumble of politics.

Contesting from Gandhinagar, she will now take on L K Advani, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. And she sees it as a battle of an outsider versus an insider.

The noted dancer, Mallika Sarabhai, daughter of the famous space scientist, Vikram Sarabhai, has decided to join the poll arena to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate, L. K. Advani, in Gujarat’s Capital city constituency of Gandhinagar. She represents the Friends For Democracy, a collective of concerned groups and individuals who want to reclaim politics and democracy for the people.

Salman Rushdie and Justice (retd) V R Krishna Iyer have supported her candidature from Gandhinagar

Sarabhai, a leading exponent of Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi, has been a vocal critic of the Narendra Modi government since post-Godhra riots in 2002.

The dancer was the first to file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court of India against the Modi government’s alleged role in the post-Godhra riots.
